Are you making these three mistakes with your curls?

If you're blessed with curly locks, you know they come with their own set of challenges. From frizz to dryness, curly hair requires special care to keep it healthy and vibrant. Let’s look at three common mistakes clients make with curly hair and how you can avoid them to embrace your curls fully.

Do you over wash your hair?

Many of us are guilty of over washing our hair, and curly hair is no exception. Washing your curls too frequently can strip away the natural oils that keep them moisturised, resulting in dryness and frizz. At Organic Ministry, we checked in with Maria, a Curl Specialist, for specific advice.

”Well, every scalp type and hair texture is unique, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer. When it comes to my curly-haired clients, I guide them on what signs to watch for that indicate it's time for a wash. These signs could include oily roots or an itchy, flaky scalp. Some people with curly hair might not experience excess oiliness and can go as long as two weeks between washes, while others might need to wash every 2-3 days due to excessive sebum buildup. So, in short, it really depends on the individual! However, washing twice a week is generally considered healthy.”

Are you using the right products?

The products you use play a significant role in the health and appearance of your curls. Unfortunately, many conventional hair products contain harsh sulfates and alcohols that can wreak havoc on curly hair, causing frizz and dryness. At Organic Ministry, we believe in the power of natural ingredients to nourish and enhance curls. Choose sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners infused with organic botanicals to cleanse, moisturise, and define your curls. Incorporate curl-enhancing products such as leave-in conditioners and hair oils to keep your curls hydrated, soft, and manageable. With the right products, you can unleash the full potential of your curls while supporting a healthier planet.

Do you over brush your hair?

Curly hair is delicate and prone to breakage, especially when it's dry. One common mistake many people make is brushing their curls when they're dry, which can lead to frizz and damage. Instead, handle your curls with care by detangling them gently while they're wet and coated with conditioner. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to remove knots and tangles, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots. By treating your curls with love and respect, you can maintain their integrity and prevent breakage, allowing them to shine in all their natural glory.

At Organic Ministry, we believe that every curl is unique and beautiful in its own way. By following these three essential tips for curly hair care, you can nourish, enhance, and celebrate your curls with confidence. With the right care and attention, your curls will flourish, leaving you with a mane that's as vibrant and beautiful as you are. Not sure where to start?
