Organic Ministry’s top tips for managing curls

Curly hair can be a beautiful and unique feature, but it can also be challenging to manage and style. Here are our sure fire ways to help care for your curly hair:

  1. Avoid heat styling as much as possible. Curly hair is naturally dry, so heat styling can strip it of its natural oils and cause damage. If you do need to use heat, use a heat protectant spray and try to keep the heat on a lower setting.

  2. Use a wide-tooth comb or a detangling brush to gently comb through your hair, starting at the ends and working your way up. Avoid using a regular brush, as this can cause tangles and breakage.

  3. Wash your hair less frequently. Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair, so washing it too often can strip it of its natural oils and cause it to become dry and brittle. Instead, try co-washing (using conditioner to cleanse your hair) or only washing your hair once or twice a week.
We recommend using our Organic Ministry Golden Wattle Shampoo and Conditioner bars. They’re ideal for balancing the moisture and rehydrating frizzy curls.

  4. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates are harsh cleansing agents that can strip your hair of its natural oils and cause it to become dry and brittle. Look for products that are specifically formulated for curly hair or that are sulfate-free.

  5. Apply a leave-in conditioner or curl defining cream to your hair after washing and before styling. This will help to moisturise your curls and keep them from getting frizzy.

  6. Ensure you’re using your products correctly. Too much product can weigh down your curls and make them appear lifeless and greasy. Instead, use a small amount of product and apply evenly through your curly hair.

  7. Protect your curls at night by sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases can cause friction and lead to frizz and breakage, while satin pillowcases help to reduce tangles and keep your curls looking smooth and healthy.

By following these tips, you can help to keep your curls looking healthy and beautiful. Remember to be patient and to experiment with different products and techniques to find what works best for your hair.
